About Me

Francesco D'Anna is an Italian Mathematics and Physics educator with 33 years of continuous professional experience in Italian scientific high schools and international education systems.

He currently serves at La Scuola d'Italia Guglielmo Marconi in New York, where he teaches Mathematics and Physics and holds several leadership and institutional responsibilities. He serves as Coordinator of the STEM Department and Assistant Head of School for Italian Educational Regulatory Affairs, supporting the school leadership in the interpretation and correct application of Italian educational regulations. He also serves as Director of the Study Abroad Program, overseeing the annual student selection process, including approximately 40 candidate interviews, applicant evaluation, and the preparation of the final admission ranking.

He is currently the only Mathematics and Physics teacher appointed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) to serve in North America, a distinctive position within the Italian educational network abroad.

His international career began with his selection through the MAECI national selection process for educators assigned to Italy's educational institutions abroad. In the 2018 national selection, involving approximately 8,000 candidates, he ranked 9th nationally in the official ranking.

Throughout his career, D'Anna has combined classroom teaching with academic, institutional, and educational leadership. He has served numerous times as President or External Commissioner of Italian State Examinations, including assignments in Italy and South America, and has participated in teacher evaluation and selection committees.

In 2001, he served on the National Commission for the national competition for teachers of literary subjects, as an expert in Information Technology. In 2004, he conducted a professional development course in Information Technology for teachers.

His professional experience also includes educational technology, STEM education, teacher training, specialized expertise in teaching and supporting students with learning disabilities and other learning difficulties, particularly in Mathematics and Physics, and the application of Artificial Intelligence to education. He is the author of "Moduli di contabilità," published in Italy in 2006 by Le Monnier, a historic Italian publishing house with nationwide distribution, and has contributed articles and interviews to Italian and international educational publications, including OrizzonteScuola, Il Newyorkese, Giornale di Sicilia, and eSchool News.

His professional work has been recognized through national and international professional engagements and awards, including the Teacher of the Year Award presented by the Association of Italian American Educators in New York in 2026.

D'Anna is a member of the Unione Matematica Italiana (UMI) and the European Mathematical Society (EMS).

His professional interests include Mathematics and Physics education, STEM education, educational leadership, international education, teacher development, educational technology, and the role of Artificial Intelligence in education.
